Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to site operators. Cookies can be "persistent" (stored until they expire or are deleted) or "session" (deleted when you close your browser).
The Mission Board uses a minimal set of cookies, all of which are strictly necessary for the Site to function. We do not use any advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. We also use a small amount of browser local storage and an optional service worker, described below.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| session | Stores your authenticated session after Discord login. Contains your user ID, username, avatar hash, and login timestamp. HMAC-signed to prevent tampering. | 7 days | Strictly Necessary |
| oauth_state | A temporary random value used during the Discord OAuth2 login flow to prevent cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks. Deleted after login completes. | 5 minutes | Strictly Necessary |
| pkce_verifier | A temporary random value used during the Discord OAuth2 login flow for Proof Key for Code Exchange (PKCE), preventing authorisation code interception attacks. Deleted after login completes. | 5 minutes | Strictly Necessary |
We store small amounts of data in your browser's local storage to make the Site work better for you. This includes things like your recently viewed events, unsaved drafts of events you are editing, and interface preferences (such as reminder choices). This data stays on your device, is not sent to us for tracking, and you can clear it through your browser settings.
If you enable browser notifications, the Site registers a service worker and stores a web push subscription on your device so it can deliver the notifications you asked for. This is optional and only happens after you grant permission in your browser, which you can revoke at any time in your browser settings. See the Privacy Policy for more detail.
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse or accept cookies, delete existing cookies, and set preferences for certain websites.
Because all cookies used by this Site are strictly necessary for it to function, disabling them will prevent you from signing in and using authenticated features such as claiming slots, managing events, and viewing your profile.
The Mission Board does not set any third-party cookies. We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, or social media tracking pixels. External content (such as embedded YouTube videos on the main 47th JOU website) is not loaded on the Mission Board and therefore cannot set cookies from this domain.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Changes are effective immediately upon posting. Check this page periodically for updates. Your continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have any questions about our use of cookies, please contact the 47th JOU leadership team through our Discord server.
