Operation Shrike was a success. US and UK airborne forces successfully seized Al Tabqah Main Airfield, allowing NATO to establish FOB HARRIER deep inside Karzeghistan.
The victory came at a cost.
For the last several days, the airborne force has defended the captured airfield against repeated KRA counterattacks. Supplies are running low, fortifications remain incomplete, and FOB HARRIER is barely holding together. Despite the pressure, they continue to hold NATO's only foothold.
Unable to retake the airfield, the Karzeghistan Royal Army (KRA) has changed its plan. Instead of attacking the FOB directly, they have fortified the southern river crossings to stop any relief force reaching the airfield. At the same time, their remaining command staff have withdrawn into Al Tabqah, where they are coordinating the defence from a heavily protected Forward Command Base.
As the closest combat-ready force, a British Battlegroup has been ordered to advance north, break through the enemy's river defences, reinforce FOB HARRIER, and launch the decisive assault into Al Tabqah before the KRA can fully regroup.
The KRA are holding both bridges with trenches, bunkers and prepared defensive positions to stop the British relief force from reaching FOB HARRIER.
Secure one crossing and establish a bridgehead on the northern side of the river. Only one bridge needs to be taken, and how this is achieved is down to Platoon Command.
Intel: A known KRA anti-air position is located near the western bridge. The site consists of ZSU anti-air vehicles capable of threatening Eagle Flight during reinserts and support flights into FOB HARRIER.
The AA site is not a required objective. Platoon Command may choose to neutralise it using mortars, CAS or a ground assault if the tactical situation allows.
Push through to FOB HARRIER and link up with the US and UK airborne force holding the captured airfield.
The FOB is damaged, low on supplies and only just holding against continued KRA attacks. Reinforce the perimeter, resupply where possible and prepare both forces for the final assault.
Launch a coordinated assault into Al Tabqah and seize the KRA Forward Command Base hidden within the city.
Destroy enemy command and communications, secure any intelligence, and eliminate the KRA's ability to coordinate further operations across the region.
The battlegroup will step off fully equipped for the operation.
FOB HARRIER has limited ammunition, medical supplies and engineering stores remaining. Once the battlegroup links up with the FOB, these supplies will be available before the final assault on Al Tabqah.
The KRA have spent several days preparing for the expected relief force.
Expect:
The enemy knows NATO reinforcements are coming from the south and will fight hard to stop them reaching FOB HARRIER.
